Camping on the Bayou Partners with St. Martinville to Launch New RV Campgrounds at Festival Grounds

We are thrilled to announce a transformative collaboration between the City of St. Martinville and Camping on the Bayou to revitalize the fairgrounds on East Madison Street. This partnership aims to create a vibrant hub for festivals, events, and social activities along the scenic Bayou Teche, fostering community unity and celebrating our rich cultural heritage.

Camping on the Bayou, known for its serene 4-acre bayou-front retreat offering private RV camping experiences, will play a pivotal role in managing new RV camping facilities at the festival grounds. This initiative will provide residents and visitors with enhanced opportunities to connect with nature and participate in community events.

Mayor Jason Willis emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “This grant means so much to us because it allows us to put this money into our fairgrounds… It brings the north side and the south side of the city together so we can unite the city.”

The redevelopment plans include adding parking, reconstructing a nearby warehouse into a multipurpose facility, enhancing the stage with sound equipment, and installing a playground for children with special needs. Additionally, efforts will focus on enabling boat docking along Bayou Teche, further enriching the area’s accessibility and appeal.

Phase one of the project is expected to be completed in about six months, marking a significant step toward realizing a state-of-the-art space that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. The Camp On The Bayou – Campground Rules Welcome to Camp On the Bayou! To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience, please take a moment to review our campground rules:

1. Quiet Hours

  • Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 7 AM. Please be respectful of nearby residents during this time by keeping noise levels to a minimum.

2. Campfires

  • Campfires are NOT allowed

3. Pets

  • Pets are welcome but must remain on a leash at all times.
  • Please clean up after your pets and dispose of waste properly.
  • Be mindful of other guests and wildlife when walking your pets.

4. Wildlife

  • Please respect the local wildlife. Do not feed or approach animals.
  • Store food securely to avoid attracting wildlife to your campsite.

5. Trash & Recycling

  • Help keep the bayou beautiful! 
  • Do not leave trash or food scraps out at your campsite.
  • No dumping allowed. Please take your trash with you as you go.

6. Alcohol

  • Responsible alcohol consumption is permitted.
  • Please dispose of any empty containers properly and respect the bayou.

7. RV, Car, and Tent Setup

  • Please park and set up in your designated spot only.
  • Be mindful of your space to respect the privacy of local residents.

8. Respect the Environment

  • Stick to marked trails and paths to protect the natural habitat.
  • Leave no trace—please pack out what you pack in.

9. Check-Out Time

  • Check-out is by 11 AM. Please ensure your campsite is clean and free of any personal belongings before departing.

10. Emergency Contact

  • In case of emergencies, call the Camp On the Bayou staff at 985-306-2959 or dial 911 for urgent situations.

Car and Tent Camping on the Bayou: A Fun and Private Adventure

My girlfriend and I were looking for a way to step up our date nights, and private camping on the bayou sounded like the perfect way to spend some quality time together with our new car and tent camping setup. So, we booked a spot at a public campsite, expecting an intimate outdoor adventure. But when we got there… we were *literally* 10 feet from the other campers! We could hear every story they told and smell their food, which gave off major community vibes. Fun, sure—but we were hoping for something a bit more private.

That’s when we found the Camp On the Bayou on a popular campground booking site. We knew they offered private RV camping, but weren’t sure if they took car and tent campers like us. We gave them a call and found out they were in a soft opening while they made some improvements, but we could still book a spot for car and tent camping for a couple of nights. Sold!

When we arrived, we didn’t know what to expect. Somdse things were still under construction, but once we saw the beautiful, peaceful bayou right by our campsite, none of that even mattered. It was like we had our own little slice of nature!

Setting up the tent turned into an unexpected workout (thanks, Amazon tent…), and my girlfriend gave me *that* look—you know the one. But, after sweating it out, we finally got it set up. The best part? We had a tent with *AC*! We cranked it up, and suddenly, we were living the glamping life. We threw down the air mattress, lit the grill, grabbed a few cold drinks, and kicked back.

Oh, and when we realized we forgot some stuff? No worries—we just Uber Eats’d it! Even though we felt like we were in our own world, the campsite was close to stores and food spots. Super convenient.

The rest of the trip was a dream. We spent hours just watching the bayou drift by, snapping pictures of the wildlife (missed a shot of a bald eagle though—next time!). It felt like we had our own private park. My girlfriend, who usually isn’t into camping, even said, “Next time, we’re bringing fishing poles!” That’s how I knew we’d found a winner.

So, if you’re looking for a fun, private, and low-key camping experience, **Camp On the Bayou** is definitely the place to be. Whether you’re camping in your car, tent, or RV, you’ll have a blast!
